HEC Pakistan Approves Research Projects for Returning PhD Scholars

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan managed the second steering committee meeting to consider the final review and approval of the project proposals, which are submitted under project, ‘Establishment of Technology Development Fund (TDF) for the HEC scholars, who return from abroad after completing their PhD and they introduced the new technologies in Pakistan.

Dr Mukhtar Ahmed is the chairman of HEC and he chaired the meeting. Dr Arshad Ali is the Executive Director HEC and Dr Muhammad Latif is advisor of R&D, who were also present on the occasion. The project steering committee is included with the members from the education sector of four province, and AJK in order to maintain the transparency for the final approval of project proposals.

Dr Mukhtar Ahmed highlighted the importance of the project and this project will strengthen the relationship between academia and industry and it will also help the researchers to materialize the ideas into the services/products to support the dream of the country about knowledge economy.

Dr Gul Muhammad Laghari is the Deputy Chief S&T Section in Ministry of Planning Development and Reforms and said that this project is included in the top priority of the government to get the vision 2025 of Pakistan. Dr Niaz Ahmed Akhtar is the Vice Chancellor of UET Taxila and he highlighted the few number of project proposals, which were received from Balochistan, KP and Sindh and there is need to encourage the provinces to apply under their next calls.

Dr Arshad Ali highlighted the role of HEC to take such initiatives to provide the opportunity to the researchers to show their ideas with industrial partners for the growth of the country in socio-economic field. He also appreciated the support of Mr. Imtiaz Rastgar, who is the chairman of Rastgar group in identifying the industrial experts.

Dr Muhammad Latif is the adviser of R&D and Ms Noshaba Awais is the director of R&D and they appreciated the contribution of the expert panel for the approval of proposals and the suggestions of the committee to their further improvement of the project in order to facilitate the innovative ideas from all areas of Pakistan.

The members of the steering committee attended the meeting, who are Dr Niaz ahme3d Akhtar, Mt Imtiaz Rastgar, Mrs Anjum Afshan Naqvi, Director of Education Colleges, AJK Muzaffarabad, Mr Ata Muhammad Kakar, deputy secretary from Balochistan, Dr Gul Muhammad Laghari, Mr Khurram Zafar, Executive Director, Center for Entrepreneurship, Lahore University of Management Sciences.
