Adamjee Government Science College

The Adamjee Government Science College (Adamjee Science College) is one of the most prestigious colleges of Karachi, Pakistan. It was established by the Adamjee Group. It is located in the heart of the city, near the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah (the father of Pakistan), in the area of Garden East (Jamshed Town) on Business Recorder Road, Karachi.

This college has a history of producing outstanding minds who are serving inside and outside of Pakistan. The college is famous in local academic circles.The college attains good results in the Higher Secondary School Certificate Examinations, with its students attaining top positions in the examinations held under the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi.
The college was inaugurated in 1962 by the “All Pakistan Memon Educational and Welfare Society” through the donation of the Adamjee Family. The college was nationalized during the government of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Prime Minister of Pakistan as part of a large nationalization campaign encompassing various sectors, including education, and was renamed to Adamjee Government Science College.

Admissions

Admissions to the college are administered under CAP (Centralized Admission Policy),according to which students are admitted on merit determined by their matriculation marks.The merit usually ends as highest out of those of all other government colleges.

Faculty members

Principal: Prof. Dr. Nasir Ansar is the senior most College Professor and Principal in BPS-20 throughout Sindh. He has a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Turkey. He has published more than 10 research papers in journals.

Department of Botany: There are three teachers in the Department of Botany, Adamjee Govt. Sci. College, Karachi. Dr. Muhammad Mushtaq is the senior most teacher and also head of the department since August 2000. He obtained a Masters degree and Gold Medal from the Department of Botany, University of Karachi, in 1995, and a Ph.D. in Botany from the department of Botany, University of Karachi, in 2002. He has published 14 research papers in the Pakistan Journal of Botany. His areas of specialization are Mycology, Plant Pathology, Yeast Microbiology and Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering of Yeasts. He is an HEC (Higher Education Commission of Pakistan) Approved Ph.D. Supervisor. Mr. Tauqeer Abbas is the second senior teacher since September 2007 holding M.Phil and M.Sc. Degrees in Botany from Department of Botany, University of Krachi. He is teaching in Adamjee Govt. College, since last three years. Mr. Rajkumar holds an M.Sc. degree in Botany as well as B.Ed., has taught Botany in the college since 2005.

Department of Physics : The Department of Physics faculty members are headed by Prof. Zafar Saeed, who has taught at the college for 30 years. Other faculty members include: Prof. Athar Hussain Mirza, Prof. Mahmood Hussain Zaidi, Prof. Najeem F. Rehman. Prof. Amyn Samani, Prof. Kamran Ahmed.

Department of Chemistry : Prof. Dr. Nasir Ansar who is principal of the college is also as chemistry teacher. Prof. Itrat Hussain is the senior most Professor and Head of the Department, and has taught in the department for 30 years. Other faculty members include: Prof. A. B. Awan, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Najmul Islam Khan, Prof. Syed Sajid Hussain, Prof. Mrs. Tahira Afzal, Prof. Mrs. Afshan, Prof. Nadeem Abbasi, Prof. Naveed Anjum.

Department of Mathematics : Prof. Shakir Ahmed is the Head of the Mathematics Department. Other faculty members include: Prof. Imran Shahid, Prof. Nazeer Ahmed, Prof. Arif Younus, Prof. Mairaj Mughal and Prof. Shakir Jamal.

Department of Zoology: Prof. Syed Aijazuddin is the Head of the Zoology Department holding M.Phill and M.Sc. Degrees in Zoology. Other faculty members include: Prof. Salman Raza, Prof. Nasir Iqbal, Prof. Nasreen Bano and Prof. Zafar Farooqui.
