AIOU Changes Marks Grading System into GPA/CGPA

Allama Iqbal Open University Islamabad is going to change the marking system to get their academic result into grade point average and it is also further changed into cumulative grade point average, which is done for the facility of the candidates to maintain their future career.

The academic council of the AIOU will adopt the outcome of this suggestion during the meeting and this was managed under the supervision of VC of AIOU, Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui.

It is also decided that the formula of GPA and CGPA of the Higher Education Commission will be applied for the programs like MS, MSc, MPhil, Honors and PhD classes, which will be granted to the students having the passing percentage of 50%. The executive council of the university will approve this GPA and CGPA system, which will be done for the bachelor programs of 4 years.

The Vice Chancellor of the AIOU, Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui has said that the university will adopt the similar system to mark the procedure of the result and the students can compete with the students of other universities at the national and international level. The students can also use it to get admission in the higher classes and they can also apply for the employment in different posts.

The older students can convert their transcripts or the marks of their degrees into the GPA and CGPA and it was decided to grant the same advantage to the old students according to the settled criteria of Executive council or HEC.

VC of AIOU, Dr Shahid Siddiqui also said that this step is necessary to take to support system for the candidates in their academic interest, which can help in certifying the quality education. The university is also busy in improving the quality of education and the exams system to keep the exams and education transparent & merit in its overall procedure.
