Faraz Chair Established at University of Peshawar

Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar Prof. Dr. Azmat Hayat Khan on Tuesday announced establishment of Faraz Chair at the Institute of Urdu and Persian language and literature UoP. The Faraz chair would comprise of all the archives relating to the life, audio video footages and the collection of books and researches done on the legendry poet which would later be converted to a research institute for the researcher students said Vice Chancellor UoP while addressing a one day function, “ Bayad e Faraz “ at Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum Museum Auditorium, University of Peshawar.

Prof. Dr. Azmat Hayat also announced the establishment of Ghani Khan Chair to be established at the Department of Pashto for research on the work of the great Pashto poet on the day. Both the poets were true son of the soil and establishing a chair in their name would be an honor for University of Peshawar, he added.

The Vice Chancellor said that Pakhtoon soil has produced best warriors, scholars, intellects, sportsmen, actors and poets which speak for their resilient abilities to deliver in all walks of life.

Shibli Faraz, son of Ahmed Faraz said that his father was a role model for him. He was a born poet who always believed in optimism and never bothered about consequences. Many people ask me that I would also be a poet but let me make it clear to them that creative ability is probably the only thing that does not necessarily runs in the family unlike the political system and families of our country.

I have deep attachment with University of Peshawar because this was the place where I was born when my father was a teacher at Islamia College Peshawar, said Shibli Faraz; he thanked the organizers for arranging the function.

Speakers comprising of Dr. Sadia Tariq, Shahid Zaman, Nishat Sarhadi, Aziz Ejaz, Mehboob Zafar, Sajjad Babar, Nazir Tabassum, Riaz Majeed and Iftikhar Hussain Khan described Faraz as poet which is pride for Urdu language.

They said that Faraz was poet of all time and presented new look to pure love. His poetry addresses both ghame janan and gham e dauran, they said.

Ahmed Faraz can rightly be called as the poet of people, hope, human rights who always raise voice against the deprivation of masses and ethnic violence’s in the country. He is an inspiration for new poets and they should follow their footstep.

hmed Faraz did poetry for more than fifty years and raised voice against the dictators and imperialists regardless of their influence and power, that is why where ever urdu is spoken and understood his name comes in limelight, they added.
