Islamabad, A total amount of Rs47.874 billion has been given by the federal government to education sector for the next fiscal year 2012-2013 as last year it was Rs39.513 billion.

For development reasons, an amount of Rs15.8 billion has been reserved under the PSDP in education. Presenting the budget, Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh on Friday instructed that out of the assigned amount to education sector, Rs35.675 billion has been kept for tertiary education which is 74.5 percent of the total allocation.

The remaining amount would be allocated for primary education, secondary, vocational and special education, additional services, expenses and educational affairs and services.

Amount for Higher Education Commission (HEC) is Rs32.77 billion and last year it was Rs26.88 billion. The HEC would make a plan of implementing about 153 development schemes. However, out of the total uplift schemes, only four are new tasks while the remaining 149 schemes are old. These plans were started last year but could not be finalized due to non-release of the total funds from the total amount fixed to it.
