LHC Told Education Secretary to Report on Free Education

Lahore, The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday asked for clarification from the Punjab Education Secretary within 15 days on free education.

During the hearing, Punjab Education Secretary informed that they are now busy in drafting a law on the topic of free education for 5-16 years age group.

LHC Chief Justice Azmat Saeed pointed out that parliament included the Article 25-A in the constitution for the opening of free education and non availability of fund could not be made reason for its non-implementation. He, moreover, told that establishing of free education is the fundamental right of children and court will not accept any excuse.

The Chief Justice adjourned the hearing till April 26. Azhar Siddique, the chairman of Judicial Activism Panel filed this suit. He quoted that under Article-1, a uniform education policy and implementation of giving free education to children in the public as well as private schools, which had been made compulsory in the 18th constitutional amendment.
