A Varian 400 MHZ Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrophotometer with an energy giving object to the research sample known as Cryo Prob of 700 MHZ has been installed at Centre for Nuclear and Molecular Studies, University of Peshawar. The NMR which has been installed by the Agilent engineer Mr. Wojciech Kosmider from oxford is the only spectrophotometer of its kind in the country and outside HEJ Karachi.

The Laboratory was formally inaugurated by Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar Prof. Dr. Azmat Hayat Khan on Thursday. Addressing the inaugural ceremony he said that, the installation of such a modern research machinery in UoP is a great achievement through which the researchers would be able to get real time data in the shortest possible time to complete their researches.

He said that I have absolutely no doubt that Peshawar University Scientists are the best in the country and if they are provided with equipments like this, they can do wonder for the country by maximsing efficient use of its resources with minimum operational cost. He said that most of the developed countries of the world had far less natural resources than us but the fact is that they have utilized them in the best possible way. It is time now that we should follow the same pattern and stop depending on others for our needs.

While giving briefing to the gathering Assistant Director Centre for Nuclear and Molecular Studies Dr. Syed Qaiser Shah said that NMR was purchased some three years back through the financial support of Higher Education Commission but it could not be installed due to some reasons, but all is well that ends well and through the support of Vice Chancellor who took all the pain and helped us in making the necessary arrangements for installation of the machine, now it is fully functional and is open for every researcher who wants to take benefit from it.

He said that researchers of chemistry, biotech etc get analysis of their data from various centres in the country in a minimum of three months which would now be possible in the shortest possible time of 30 minutes only. We are planning to attach another device to the present one in near future which would allow us to do standing MRI of patients who are not able lay their body down or sit for the MRI test. This he said would be additional advantage of NMR.
