OSHE Award 2011 won by AKU
Employers’ Federation of Pakistan in coordination with the International Labour Organization gave away the Occupational Safety Health and Environment (OHSE) Award 2011 to Aga Khan University for showing its outstanding performance in the service sector during the year 2010-2011 on April 28 on the occasion of World Day on Safety and Health at Work.
This award shows the proof of University’s commitment to quality and safety, and to the programmes, staff trainings and hazard surveillance processes it has put into place. 24 organizations have submitted nominations to the nationwide competition in which AKU was selected for the best performance in the service sector.
This decision was made by an independent panel of judges, taken from different industries, who assessed performance in key areas such as the quality of the EHS, management programme, leadership commitment, staff participation, goals and objectives, training programmes and progress, EHS departmental setup, incident reporting and analysis, emergency preparedness, employee health monitoring programme and performance monitoring, measurement and improvement.
Mr Irfan Dossa, an expert in the field of occupational health and environment and one of the judges on the OSHE panel, commented on the occasion that the installation of such facility showed AKU’s commitment to safeguard not only people’s health but also the environment. He also praised for the organization’s systems for identification of hazard, online incident reporting and investigation, training and drills, and risk analysis.
The award was given away at a ceremony held at Pearl Continental Hotel, Karachi on Friday, April 27, 2012.
