When you will be granted first time student residence permit than you will be automatically granted a work permit to work part time while studying in Norway. If you want to renew your work permit than it will automatically be renewed with out any problem. Usually the duration of part time work permit is same as the duration of your study permit. On the other hand when you renew your study permit than your part time work will not be automatically renewed. In this condition you have to document satisfactory progress in your all studies which is required to continue to work as part time.
This type of requirement is usually met by enclosing a single statement from your institution where you are studying with the renewal application. This statement contains all information about your progress whether you should be allowed to work with your studies or not. This statement also contains information about how many hours per week you can work. This type of statement is required because it is actually the studies and is not the work which is the main purpose of your stay in Norway.
