PM asks Google to help for Development in IT

Islamabad, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani asked the Executive Chairman Eric Emerson Schmidt of Google Inc. to extend their hands to help Pakistan in its program of establishing universal service centres at union councils throughout the country.

He expressed these views at his Parliament chamber by saying that the government has agreed to set up information technology (IT) centres to increase employment opportunities and upgrade IT in the remote areas of the country.

He said that Pakistan was observing rapid growth in internet adoption at a growth rate of 120% during the past three years. The numbers of broadband internet users have been toppled to seven million. He further added that this growth will continue in the future as more persons will join the cyber world.

The premier further added that he recently announced a project which will be funded with $10 million and he will be pleased if Google will also contribute to it.
He highlighted the need of expansion of technology for electronic assembling of data about cross-border movements between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Google Inc Executive Chairman Eric Emerson Schmidt expressed his views by saying that demographic structure of the Pakistani population was a great national strength and the youth of Pakistan is talented and energetic to get knowledge of IT. He also assured the prime minister that his company was ready to deliver their expertise for spreading ICT throughout Pakistan. He also added that generating of economic development approach will also be very important.
