Punjab University Provide Free Education To Kashmiri Students

University of the Punjab has taken a decision to provide free education to students of Kashmir region. Apart from that, accommodation to 10 students of Jammu & Kashmir will be provided by the university.

The decision has been taken due to tense situation on Pak-India border. It started on 8th July with the death of Burhan Wani of Kashmir based organization Hizbul Mujahideen. Later, the protests took the lives of dozens of Kashmiri youth that enraged the whole population of Kashmir.

Free education, a stipend and accommodation will be offered to 10 Kashmiri students in 2017

VC Punjab University Prof Mujahid Kamran decided to take the initiative by himself. He told that they have decided to give admission to 10 Kashmiri students in 2017. Their residential and study expenses will be bear by the university.

PU is already providing free education to students belong to backward areas. 15 students from Gilgit-Baltistan were also given this facility last year. The VC also promised to increase the quota of Kashmiri students next year. He also told that special funds will be allocated for a complete research on Kashmir dispute.

Punjab University already offers scholarships to 15 Gilgit-Baltistan students

The students will also be provided with hostel facilities and a stipend apart from free education while the initiative will start from September and October 2017.

Kashmir is a disputed territory and there is absence of peace in the region for quite some time that give rise to poor lifestyle and this situation should be understand by both Pakistan and India. Pakistan and India both can’t support the region fully that stopped the progress in Kashmir.
