In survey which was conducted by East China Normal University in February 2007 shows that there are more than 31.5 % of Chinese citizen of ages 16 and over who are religious believers. On the other hand the government of China places restrictions on the practice of the religions especially for all those religious practices that are conducted outside officially recognized organizations. The most common patriotic religious associations in China are Taoism, Buddhism, Islam, Protestantism and Catholicism that are most practiced in China. According to state approved Xinhua there are more than 100 million Buddhists in China but on the other hand the Blue Book of Religions says that there are more than 21 million Muslims in China. According to State Administration for Religious Affairs there are round about 23 million Christians that are the 1.8 % of the total population of China. Many other organizations say that there are more than 5.3 million Catholics in China. According to the estimate of the Pew Research Center there are more than 70 million Christians who practice their religion in unregistered religious gatherings or in the house churches.
