Right to Free and Compulsory Education Bill 2012 Passed By NA

On Tuesday, “The Right to Free and Compulsory Education Bill, 2012,” was passed by The National Assembly of Pakistan in Islamabad. According to the bill poor children aged from 5 to 16 in Islamabad will be provided free and compulsory education.

For the deprived students in private schools, the government has allotted 10 percent quota under the bill 2012. The basic priority of the government is to provide free and compulsory education for the children was said by the Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khurshid Shah while speaking on a special occasion. The province will also follow suit and make legislation accordingly, with the passage of the bill, which is a hope expressed by Syed Khurshid Shah.

According to the bill, if the children were not attending the school, the parents could be jailed for six months or could be fined up to Rs 25,000. If the child who should be attending the school found working then the parents will get double punishment.

Earlier this year, in June the Senate passed the bill.
