Karachi, Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has decided to finish the gender difference in the medical colleges and stopped the admissions on the open merit. This will be approved in the 138 meeting of the PMDC, which will be held on 27 September. Prof Masood Hameed, the president of PMDC and VC of Dow Medical University will preside over the meeting. It is said that this decision has been made due to increasing number of female students in the medical and dental colleges and they left the department after their weddings. Dr Masood Hameed has also told that open merit is not abolished but the seats of the students are reserved on the equality basis for the male and female students. He said that the number of the female student was increased every year and the number of the male students was decreased. A large number of lady doctors has also left the department after their marriages, which was the grave concern on this issue. Now the students will be given admission on the open merit but seats are allotted on the 50% basis. This policy will be implemented from the next year and during this year, the admissions will be granted on the previous policy.
