Universities Cannot Employ NTS Admission Tests Anymore

According to the announcement by Higher Education Commission, now there is no compulsion for universities to hold GAT (Graduate Assessment Test) through NTS (National Testing Service) for admissions in the universities.
In March 2014, a judgment was passed by Lahore High Court against the undertaking of NTS test by private universities when a student Syeda Anam Ilyas launched a petition against the alleged illegal testing service of NTS and said that a private firm can only take the tests after the legislation by parliament.
Now HEC has directed all the universities to conduct their own GAT and admission tests for higher education admissions instead of depending on NTS for such tests, according to an official.
Testing via the NTS has always been a very gray area and after billions in revenue, it has finally been declared non-mandatory
HEC also denied that it ordered the private universities to take NTS test from the students already achieved admission through university test, as claimed by few students. The students told that HEC asked the private universities to do so.
Students of few private universities including Riphah International University blamed that the universities were directed by HEC to take NTS test from them after they passed the intra-university test which is necessary to take admissions in MPhil.
After that, the students warned HEC to launch protest against the decision as it was unrealistic and time wasting procedure which is also a burden on them from economic point of view.
