The U.N. General Assembly has designated the year 2011 as the “International Year of Chemistry.” with the slogan: “ Chemistry—our life, our future

The goals of IYC 2011 are:

  • To increase public appreciation of chemistry in meeting world needs.
  • To increase the interest of young people in chemistry.
  • To generate enthusiasm for the creative future of chemistry.
  • To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Madame Curie’s Nobel Prize and the founding of the International Association of Chemical Societies.

The Institute of Chemical Sciences (ICS), University of Peshawar has been the pioneer in initiating events of national and International levels in Pakistan. The Institute is proud to have joined the world community in celebrating the IYC 2011. During the IYC 2011, several programmes were arranged including chemistry model exhibition, seminars, workshops, posters etc. The closing ceremony is planned for Dec 15, 2011 at SSAQK Museum.

There will be two lectures; Life and Works of Mdm. Prof. Marie Sktodowska Curi, by Dr. Mahmood A. Khwaja, Senior Adviser, Chemicals & Sustainable, Industrial Development, SDPI, and Symbiotic Relationship between Chemistry,Technology, & Globalization in the 21 st Century, by Fida Mohammad, Ph.D, Associate Professor and Dean, Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering, GIKI, Topi-23640, Sawabi. Beside the students and scholar of ICS, students from constituent college and ICP-university are expected to participate.
