US Scholarships 2014 for Over 102 Pakistani Students

Sindh, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is going to award about 102 scholarships to the students in the field of Associated Diploma in Education and Bachelor of Education (Hons) programs. USAID has already started the Pakistan Reading Project and this scholarship is part of $165 million.

USAID has announced the award of the US scholarships in the event, which is attended by the Provincial Director of USAID, Leon S Waskin, who is also working as the acting US Consul General of Sindh. The Additional Chief Secretary of Education in Sindh, Dr Fazlullah Pechuho was also present on the occasion. In this scholarship program, the tuition and other expenses are provided in it and it will be provided to the students along with the stipend. The US government is now providing the scholarships to more than 4500 teachers to get the education in the respective fields.

During this ceremony, 11 future teachers were also awarded with the graduation certificates on the completion of their US funded ADE program. The Provincial Director of USAID said while speaking on the occasion that, if you qualified and eligible teachers, then you can achieve the development and progress in the country. In this way, Pakistan Reading Project duly funded by the USAID, is a fundamental step of the US government, which can help the government of Pakistan to extend the education to the deprived sector of the society. The Additional Secretary of Sindh has also acknowledged the support of US government for the improvement of education standard in the country especially in Sindh province.

The project of Pakistan Reading will help the 2.5 million children to enhance their reading skills and it is also ensured that the literacy rate will be improved by 2019. This project will be started in different 28 universities and 116 elementary teacher-training colleges across the country for the promotion of the education and the teaching skills of the teachers.

It is also said that in next 5 years, Pakistan Reading Project will award about 1066 ADE and B.Ed (Hons) scholarships to the Sindhi students. There are centers in the four Pakistan universities, which are established by US & these are providing help in improving the educational skills for more than 5,000 low-income students. USAID has already provided 4800 scholarships to the university students for getting further education under Pakistan-USAID merit and need based scholarship program.
