AIOU Present One Million Books in Public Libraries

Islamabad, Public Libraries prevailing in the country have been issued one million books by the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) with the objective of upgrading education and research as well as recognizing the element that 1.3 million students of this prestigious university are getting benefits from these libraries.

AIOU Vice-Chancellor Dr Nazir Ahmad Sangi said while talking at the inauguration ceremony of the International Journal of Information Management Science (IJIMS) which is being organized by the Pakistan Librarian Welfare Organization in association with the Punjab Library Foundation at the Quaid-i-Azam Library in last week.

Dr Sangi said the university would upload its website with IJIMS. He insisted that all concerned departments should give importance to good books and journals. Public libraries should also be digitally promoted. “The AIOU is extending its cooperation with public libraries to enable the students to study their subjects and conduct research,” Dr Sangi said.

The VC further added that the Open University had just introduced a program “Jahan Talib-i-ilm Wahan Ustad” with object to increase faculty at local level and support modern science disciplines.

Director General, Public Libraries Punjab Atta Muhammad Khan said that Punjab government allocated huge amount of funds for the extension and promotion of libraries and carry out research work.
