The Punjab government has laid down the foundation stone of self-financing Medical College for medical students in 2003 which is known as Sheikh Zayed Medical Institute. It was the primitive dream of the residents of Southern Punjab and the creation of SZMC is proved a blessing of Allah for the people at the borders of three provinces.
This college was formerly known as Quaid-e-Azam Medical College (QAMC) at Bahawalpur in 2003. Sheikh Zayed Medical College Campus was set up in the building of Sheikh Zayed hospital which is presently working and college started its function in January 2005 and reception was also reported in 2005. Then second class was shifted from QAMC to SZMC in April 2005. This system was carried on for about three years. After some time a suggestion was presented to build new campus in Mehmood Stadium consisting of 20 acres adjoining with Sheikh Zayed Medical Complex. When this college would be completed and all modern equipments will be provided then SZMC will be compared with any national or international institution.
