Governor Announces Grant of Rs 50mn for SMU

Karachi: A high level meeting has been held in Governor House Karachi which was attended by the Provincial Health Minister, Secretary Health, Secretary Law, Vice Chancellors of both medical universities like Sindh Medical University and Dow Medical University. In this meeting, Governor has announced a special grant of Rs. 50 million for the up gradation of Sindh Medical University and it has been renamed as Jinnah Sindh Medical University. Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Institute will be established to provide educational facilities to the students as well as provide medical treatment to the patient in an advanced environment.

Two other medical institutes naming NICH and NICVD will also be established as affiliated institutions for carrying research activities in medical profession and make this university the institution of international standard. The Governor has appointed the transition officer in order to solve matters arising between these two universities. He further made announcement for the working of Dr. Ishrat ul Ibad Khan Institute of Oral Health which will carry out its function as affiliated with Dow Medical University.
