HEC Gives 5000+ Scholarship to Get Education Overseas

Higher Education Commission HEC is responsible for the higher education in the universities within the country and also sends the students in the abroad universities on the scholarship basis. There are about 5780 scholars, who are proceeded to the advanced countries to get the higher education under the overseas scholarship program of Higher Education Commission. Out of these scholars, 3807 scholars have completed their education and they returned to Pakistan.

HEC has been awarding the foreign scholarships to the Pakistani students since 2003 at the master, MS and PhD levels in order to produce highly qualified human resource and they contribute in the socio economic development of the country. These scholars have completed their education or they are still getting education in top ranked universities of Austria, Australia, Belgium, Belarus, China, Canada, Cuba, France, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Hong Kong, Spain, South Korea, Malaysia, Sweden, New Zealand, Thailand, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, Italy, United States and Turkey.

How System Works

HEC offers scholarships to the students under different overseas scholarship programs and the interested candidates apply through the advertised scheme, which is provided to them to meet the eligibility criteria. The eligible candidates score at least 50 marks in aptitude test under Higher Education Commission.

The merit list of the selected candidates is prepared on the basis of the result of the aptitude test and the academic score. The shortlisted candidates secure the admission and they receive the acceptance letter before interview. The final selection of the candidates is made by the foreign professors through the interview. The selected candidates are asked to obtain visa of the host country. When the candidates are about to leave, HEC gives one way airfare and two months advanced stipend in form of cheque and it can be deposited in the account of the scholar.

The remaining scholarship amount is remitted in the bank accounts of the partner institute of HEC or Pakistan high commissions on the annual basis. The partner institute or the high commission remits the funds to the account of the scholar of HEC on the monthly basis.

Increase number of PhD Students

In the light of HEC vision 2025, Higher Education Commission makes the plan to take the number of PhD scholars or faculty in Pakistani higher education institute to about 40,000 to cater the growing higher education needs of the country. There are number of overseas and indigenous PhD schemes, which will help to produce qualified faculty in the different disciplines to serve in different institutes throughout the country.
