M Atif Khan, the minister for Elementary & Secondary Education in KPK, says that the provincial government has plans to establish 1300 IT labs in KPK before next elections.

He said that the provincial government is taking steps to spread the education of IT in KPK because it can play important role in the development of the country.

The minister was saying that on Saturday during the E-Pakistan conference at Sarhad University of Information Technology. He told that so far 500 IT labs have been established in the province by the recent government. In next year, they have planned to establish 500 more universities for which they have allocated Rs. 1.5 billion.

The minister also told that before the start of current provincial government, there were just 180 IT labs in the whole province and now there are expecting to increase their numbers up to 1300 till the end of their tenure.

The minister also appreciated the role of Sarhad University for extension of E-Pakistan project from E-Peshawar project. University’s VC also addressed during the conference and said that students of SUIT are getting modern education.

Education Situation in Pakistan

It is a good step while comparing it to ghost schools established in the country through which national funds are wasted in salaries of their teachers. But these IT labs can deliver only in the presence of capable teachers.

Currently, only 3% of Pakistan’s budget is allocated for education which is far less than international standards. It should be remembered that progress of the nation is impossible without standard education for more funds and seriousness are required.
