Actually the post graduate work permit is usually not longer than your time duration of your studies in Canada. In other words you can say that all those students that are graduating from any Canadian institute and has four years degree program are eligible to apply for three years work permit in Canada. All those students that are having eight months certificate programs will have only eight months work permit.

Study Duration	Eligibility
If less than eight months	Then you are not eligible for this type of program
If more than eight months but less than two years	Then you can get work permit that should be same according to your study permit. If you studies for 08 months then you will get work permit for 8 months.
If two years or more	Then Work Permit will be easily issued for the duration of three years

It is must that you should apply for post graduation work permit with in the duration of 90 days. Actually it is releasing time of the final grades you should notify that you have completed your study program requirements. When every you send your application to post graduate work permits you should confirm that whether your study permit is valid or not because a valid study permit is needed.

When ever you see that your study permit is going to be expires before this period than you have to apply for the extension of study permit before it expires because it is the rule to extend study permit.
