Oxford Manages Karachi Literature Festival 2013

The Oxford University Press has managed a Karachi Literature Festival 2013, which is going to be conducted on 15, 16 and 17 February 2013 at the Beach Luxury Hotel Karachi. This festival has been arranging here from the last three years since 2010 and now its 4th season is going to be launched there as the event of Karachi Jashan-e-Adab and this festival is open to all and free. This festival has the creative writing workshop, lectures, book fair, signings, discussions, debates, readings and book launchings. Now this festival is going to be conducted in the  city of Karachi where everyone can come and the Children Literature Festival is going to be held with the cooperation of Karachi Literature Festival.

The Director by Ameena Saiyid and co-Founders are Ameena Saiyid and Asif Farrukhi are the main sponsors and event producer of this festival. This festival has the attendance of the people of about 5000 in 2010, the number of people 10,000 in 2011, the number of people 15,000 in 2012 and now it is expected that the number of people will be more in 2013. The co-director of the Jaipur Literature Festival, Mr William Dalrymple expected to be more than the previous year. The festival has arranged about 35 speaker performers in 34 sessions in 2010, there were 102 speaker performers in 102 sessions, in 2012 there were 214 speaker performers in 129 sessions in shape of individuals and groups. In the beginning, this festival was celebrated on two days and now it will be celebrated for three days.

It is also decided that during 2013, this festival will be conducted in twelve countries and there will be nine languages. The countries included Nepal, France, Pakistan, Canada, USA, India, Palestine, Russia, Italy, Sweden, Germany and UK. The languages include in this festival in which the authors will have to write like Urdu, English, Swedish, German, Italian, Hindi, Sindhi, Punjabi, Russian and French. The festival will be celebrated in different fields like dance, theatre, spoken word poetry, film, art of book making for children, photography and puppetry.

There are some non-fiction books placed in the Karachi Literature Festival in which prizes went to the book written in English by Pakistani author. Zubeida Mustafa, Dr Jaffer Ahmed Juried and Ghazi Salahuddin who won the prize with cash prize of Rs.1,00,000. During the festival in 2013, the award has given the new name like Karachi Literature Festival Coca Cola Prize with cash prize of Rs.1,50,000.
