Government of the Punjab Approves 4-Year Literacy Project

Lahore, The government of the Punjab has accorded approval for the provision of Rs.2.3 billion to Punjab Enhanced Functional Literacy along with Project of Informal Basic Education belongs to the department of Informal Basic Education against their demand placed before the government for Rs.5.92 billion for launching of four year project.
The Punjab government has already reserved 700 million rupees during their current fiscal year for literacy department against their requirement of Rs.1.437 billion for annual development program.
In the session of PDWP which was attended by P&D chairman and secretaries of school education department, the literacy project plan submitted by Dr. Pervaiz Ahmed Khan has been reviewed and accorded acceptance of four year Accelerated Functional Literacy of Punjab and Project of Informal Basic Education which has already been permitted in June 30.
According to the project, the government has selected 30 union councils in different 35 districts to set up 170 informal basic education schools to cope with the requirements of children having age 5 to 16 years. The salary of the school teachers was also raised from Rs.2500 to Rs.5000.
