Higher Education Commission has decided that MBA degree would be equivalent to MPhil from this session. The candidate would be eligible to apply for PhD admission after passing the MBA exam. In a meeting of HEC National Business Education Accreditation Council, this decision was taken.
The meeting was presided over by Professor Amaanullah Khan and more than 30 representatives of business schools participated in it. It was decided that a 2 year of MBA will be required after the completion of 4 year BBA program and there would be no need for MPhil degree after this.
The meeting was avoided by representatives of various recognized universities including Punjab University, Quaid-e-Azam University, Karachi University, Peshawar University, LUMS, Islamia University Bahawalpur, Bahauddin Zakariya University, FAST, COMSATS and several other business schools. These universities’ representatives argue that this decision will create an uncertain condition among the students. Now a student will complete bachelor degree at 21 years of age and the next degree at 24 years of age. At MBA level, it will also affect the number of students interested to pursue higher studies. From fall 2014, the decision will be implemented.
