The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the results of the IIT-JEE (Mains) on Wednesday. The JEE (Advanced) test will be held on 22nd May for which 1031 students of Chandigarh have qualified.
From all parts of India, total 12.07 lakh candidates appeared for IIT exam and only the number of qualified students for JEE (Advanced) is only 154,032. Among these, 78173 are from reserved categories and 75859 are from the general category. The JEE (advanced) test will also be taken by 4358 candidates of Haryana and 2073 candidates from Punjab.
After the declaration of the CBSE 12th board results, the ranks of students will be finalized. After 30th June, the CBSE will show JEE (Main) Ranking Card that will show All India rank, category rank and state rank of a candidate with total marks.
An IIT JEE trainer in Chandigarh said that 40% weightage is given to the marks in 12th board while 60% weightage is for marks obtained in IIT (Main) by student. The ranks will be finalized after announcement of CBSE results. Currently, only scores of JE Main 2016 have been announced by CBSE.
The cut-off marks for JEE (Advanced) of different categories have also been issued by the CBSE. The cut-off for OBC is 70 and for general category students is 100 out of total 360. This year, the cut-off for students of ST category is 48 and for SC category is 52.
In 2015, 115 were the cut off marks in general category while they were 105 in JEE (Main) 2014. The reasons for continuous decrease in cut off marks for JEE (Main) are increase in difficulty of exams and decrease in the number of participants in JEE exams.
