Pakistan Coalition for Education and initiative of Society for Access to Quality Education (SAQE) had managed a discussion on ‘Education for all: Role of Media’ and secured excellent results.  The discussion was targeted to construct a strong link between media and civil society to make up the gaps for the development of article 25-A after the 18th constitutional amendment.

There are about 13,000 maddaris in Pakistan who are provided with foods, accommodation and education. The government failed to deliver education to children at a large scale but on the other hand maddaris are fulfilling the demands quite efficiently.

A participant, Javed Hasnan Aly, during discussion on ‘Education for all: Challenges and Responses’ told that we are unfortunate that information about education and problems of children have not been collected in Pakistan since its creation. He urged the dire need of adopting modern techniques to solve our problems instead of trusting our old opinions.  He further added that in 1950, Pakistan and Malaysia were attaining the same growth. Malaysia has made remarkable progress and extended its growth rates but Pakistan, unfortunately is still lagging behind. Countries like China, Malaysia and South Korea invested huge amount to achieve their target during the last 10 years and they had made successful their targets.

He informed that the government did not allocate the promised 4 percent of GDP to education. Education Task Force has revealed that Pakistan is still far behind in achieving MDGs and EFA. As a result 7 million children are still out of school and 3 million will never attend school. At the conclusion, all members emphasized to have a mutual sharing to attain the desired results with the help of media and NGOs.
