According to officials, schoolgirls in all over Pakistan will be provided poultry in order to teach them about the kitchen but this initiative was not much liked by women activists.
Punjab officials told that 1000 primary schools will initially receive four hens, one cock and a cage in the initial part of this step.
Punjab’s livestock department head Naseen Sadiq told that the aim is to educate about nutrition and promote poultry in the province as country is facing severe protein deficiency according to World Bank figures. He added that schoolgirls will also learn how to utilize kitchen waste by using their food left from lunch. He told that they preferred girls over boys as they have more experience about kitchen in their house.
This project was criticized by women’s activist Farzana Bari as she thinks that girls are encouraged through this project to limit their role in kitchen. She said that boys should also be included in this project in order to create equality among both.
She had the view that women should be given more confident instead of limiting their role in kitchen while teaching boys would make them learn how to help women in their kitchen.
It was told that the program will start from next month.
